For the life was manifested and we have seen it and bear witness and shew unto you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested unto us.

This life was revealed to us, and we have seen it and testify about it. We declare to you this eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.

The life was manifested and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us.

2 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

These two passages are a powerful discussion of the place of sin in the believer's life as well as the believer's assurance.
