The Sama–Bajaw languages are a well-established group of languages spoken by the Sama-Bajau peoples (A'a sama) of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
The scores indicate that the Ubian dialect is clearly a part of the Southern. Samal dialects as evidenced by the high scores with Philippine Simunul, Sikubung.
Ubian is said to be identical with the language of the Banadan who have settled at Limau-Limauan near Kudat.
The Bajaus speak a Malayo-Polynesian language which they themselves call 'Sama'. The 'Sama' language is spoken in the Philippines and Malaysia.
Sinama is the most common name for these languages, but they are also called Bajau, especially in Malaysia. Most Sama-Bajau can speak multiple languages.
