The Constitution was approved by referendum on 30 August 1995 . This date has since been adopted as the "Constitution Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan". The Kazakh language is the official language of the state, while Article 7, section 2 states that the "Russian language shall be officially used on equal grounds".
