But a few days ago when I finished work and came to use the unit again it would only display "USB DEVICE ERROR" when trying to use my iPod as I would normally.

It has played my ipod superbly for a month or so, but I'm suddenly getting either a 'USB Device Error' or 'Current error' message on the Alpine's display.
