Black squirrels were brought to Kent State University in 1961 by Larry Wooddell , who was the grounds superinten- dent, and “Biff” Staples, a retired Davey Tree employee. They called the mission “Operation Black Squirrel”. Wooddell first saw Black Squirrels while traveling through Chardon, Ohio.
