Christ foretells the ruin coming upon the people of the Jews; and what he said here, would be of use to his disciples, for their conduct and for their comfort.

These false Christs had their false prophets, who endeavoured to persuade the people to believe them to be the Messiah.

Jesus begins to describe a time when He will be gone from the earth and the disciples will be on their own.

Jesus is saying in Matthew 24:23-25 two major points about false Messiahs. First, the false Messiah will not be visible and out in the open.

For false christs and false prophets will arise and will provide great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
