A solitary and shy species that rarely moves far from dense cover. Active during the day and night within the forest, where it feeds on fallen leaves and fruit.

A medium-sized, short-tailed, brownish-grey wallaby that is paler ventrally (on the belly), with distinct reddish neck and shoulders.
Thylogale billardierii are short stocky marsupials. Adult males weigh about 7 kg, females only about 4 kg. Pademelons have a short tail and compact body.
