In order to save Ryoma, you need to complete the first 4 of his bond missions . The 4th mission is located in chapter 3, travel here by using the Testament of the Soul at any Longhouse. Next, make sure your Ronin is at Bond Level 6 or higher (not Ryoma's bond level!).
