You can send it to either address. BX9 1AS is the main address for Self Assessment post, NE98 1ZZ is the address used by couriers.
You will be able to submit a paper SA109 to amend your captured tax return, so that you can claim split year treatment.
You can see guidance here: Tax on your UK income if you live abroad. The completed return should be sent to: HMRC, PAYE & Self Assessment, BX9 1AS.
To register for self assessment, I think you can fill in the SA1 form (select non-UK address), print and post back the form to HMRC from the following link.
You would now normally receive any contact from us throught the mail. If you haven't already received your 23/24 notice to file, you should do so shortly.
