I think you can run low mileage (20-40 mpw) and go sub 17 fairly easily as long as you have other means of endurance exercise plus a natural ability to run. |
A 17-minute 5k is about a 5:30 mile pace, so some of your training runs should be at under 6 minute mile pace. Easy runs can be at 7:30 mile pace. |
