In 2003, he was appointed as vice chair of the Department of Anesthesiology. He has served as assistant dean of the UVA School of Medicine since 2011.

Randal S. Blank, MD, PhD, is chief of thoracic anesthesia and a professor of anesthesiology. He works closely with the UVA Division of Thoracic Surgery.
