Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) catalyzes the conversion of isocitrate to alpha ketoglutarate (Fig. 1). IDH occurs in three isoforms, IDH1, located in the cytoplasm, IDH2 located in the mitochondria, and IDH3 , which functions as part of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle.
Of the three subtypes of IDH, IDH1 mainly exists in peroxisome and cytoplasm, and IDH2 and IDH3 are located in the mitochondria [88].
