why don't neutrons decay in the nucleus - Axtarish в Google
The energy levels inside nuclei are such that if a neutron were to decay into a proton, it would have to find a place in a higher-energy level (because of Pauli's exclusion principle keeping it out of lower-lying energy levels), and the total energy doesn't add up to enough to allow the neutron to decay.
But where a neutron is paired with a proton its decay is not energy feasible and thus such neutrons within nuclei are stable.
15 сент. 2023 г. · Neutrons can be stable when bound into an atomic nucleus, but free neutrons decay away in mere minutes. So how are neutron stars stable?
When embedded in an atomic nucleus, neutrons are (usually) stable particles. Outside the nucleus, free neutrons are unstable and have a mean lifetime of ...
16 апр. 2016 г. · While neutrons can be stable inside an atomic nucleus, free neutrons will decay into a proton, electron and anti-neutrino.
8 мая 2012 г. · The real answer is that it has to do with the fact that the proton mass and neutron mass are so similar. When the parent particle's rest mass ...
18 дек. 2013 г. · A free proton can't decay into a neutron + positron + neutron because of energy conservation. Now, inside a nucleus if you try to cram too many ...
