why magnesium has low melting point - Axtarish в Google
Melting point depends on: 1) the strength of the bonds . Although the metallic bond in magnesium is stronger than calcium, the magnesium atoms are loosely packed compared to the calcium. Hence less energy is needed to break the metallic bond in magnesium and therefore has lower melting point than calcium.

Why Magnesium has least melting amd boiling point among group 2 elements? And why calcium has least density?
The melting points get lower as you go down the Group because the metallic bonds get weaker. The oddity of magnesium has to be explained separately.
However, if you include magnesium, you will see that its melting point is lower than the melting point of calcium, the next element down. If you include ...
