All official Gnudb servers run CDDBP at port 8880 and HTTP at port 80. For HTTP access, the path is typically /~cddb/cddb.cgi. Whenever possible, it is recommended to use HTTP as it is more reliable than CDDBP. Additionally, using CDDBP may necessitate changes to your firewall settings.

CDDB, short for Compact Disc Database, is a database for software applications to look up audio CD (compact disc) information over the Internet. This is performed by a client which calculates a (nearly) unique disc ID and then queries the database.
Thankfully, the server at GNUDB continues to serve out CDDB info and is updated by users with info about new CDs. That said … you should switch to MusicBrainz. FreeDB was always held back by compatibility with the late 1990s CDDB format. MusicBrainz is a better data source and is well-maintained by a nonprofit.
